Systems of transferring the drawing – Squaring
The squaring, a system of carrying over the drawing, mostly aimed at its enlargement, based on the ratio of the squares measured on the original and those traced to scale on the new surface where the composition is to be reproduced.
The use of gridwork as a system of carrying over the drawing is widely attested starting from the fourteenth century both for the realization of wall paintings and for paintings on wood panels and canvas.
